Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. A Brooklyn driver was shot dead in an apparent street confrontation outside of a public housing complex early on Sunday morning. Jose Flores, 30, of Flatbush Avenue, was gunned down near the Tapscott Rehab Houses in Brownsville at about 4:23 a.m. Flores was allegedly stopped by another vehicle with multiple passengers and was engaged in a verbal dispute before he was killed. So far, no arrests have been made. (AMNY)
  2. A five alarm fire erupted at UFC Fit in Boerum Hill on Monday morning, leaving at least a dozen people injured. The fire was contained within three and a half hours, and required the work of over 200 firefighters and EMS team members. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. (NBC New York)
  3. Dozens of locals rallied at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bay Ridge to demand that the Kings County health care institution be saved. The federal Department of Veterans Affairs recently released a report that illustrated plans to close both the Manhattan and Brooklyn VA facilities and consolidate their services into other facilities. Veterans, elected officials, and other advocates argue that the plan would make it unnecessarily more difficult for veterans to access vital health care. (Brooklyn Paper)
