Charlie Murphy, Comedian And Brother Of Eddie Murphy, Dies Of Cancer

He died at a New York City hospital while undergoing cancer treatment, according to TMZ. He lived in New Jersey.

BROOKLYN, NY — Charlie Murphy, the brother of Eddie Murphy and stand-up comedian who rose to fame on "Chappelle's Show," died Wednesday in a New York City hospital where he was undergoing cancer treatment, TMZ reported, citing Murphy's manager.

Murphy, a Brooklyn native who lived in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey, was 57.

Murphy suffered from leukemia, TMZ reported, but his death Wednesday came as a shock to his family, who would call him regularly at the hospital.

He tweeted just this morning from his verified account: "Rise & Grind: 'Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle.' - Abraham Lincoln" The tweet has since been deleted.

Murphy was born in Brooklyn in 1959 and served in the Navy for six years as a boiler technician.

He rose to fame as a regular on Dave Chapelle's eponymous comedy show. His most famous sketches involved him partying with Prince and Rick James.

Murphy also appeared in "CB4," "The Boondocks," "Harlem Nights" and "The Players Club." He did voiceovers for Budweiser commercials and a "Grand Theft Auto" video game.

Murphy is survived by his three children. His wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy, died of cancer in 2009.
