Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- Dozens of Brooklyn clergy members marched across the Brooklyn Bridge on Thursday in order to raise awareness about gun violence. The group walked from Cadman Plaza to Manhattan's City Hall. This marks the second consecutive year in which clergy members have organized the march, calling for an end to the violence in the city's underserved communities. (CBS New York)
- The NYPD are searching for a man who shot and killed a man at a Brooklyn intersection on Wednesday night. The suspect approached the victim's Jeep Grand Cherokee at a red light on a bicycle and fired multiple shots before riding away. The investigation remains ongoing as no arrests have been made. (AMNY)
- A Queens man was arrested and charged with assault on a police officer and reckless endangerment after fleeing a traffic stop. During the routine stop, 25-year-old Kendall Floyd threw open his car door, striking a police officer, before fleeing on foot. A chase ensued which ended in the suspect jumping from an elevated subway track onto a building roof and sustaining a leg injury in the process. (NBC New York)
- Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez has proposed new programs that would tie gun violence education with mental health programs in Brooklyn schools. Gonzalez is among the many who are deeply concerned with the influx of guns and gun violence in the city's neighborhoods. (CBS New York)
- Artist Fred Wilson unveiled a large-scale public sculpture in Downtown Brooklyn. The installation, titled "Mind Forged Manacles, Manacles Forged Minds" is located in Columbus Park. Wilson's sculpture will remain on display through June 2023. (6Sqft)
