Cop Shoots 17-Year-Old In The Leg In Brooklyn: NYPD

The teen picked up a purple gun he dropped in the street and stood to face the officer who shot him, said Chief of Patrol John Chell.

BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — Cops shot a 17-year-old in the leg while breaking up a large fight in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, police said.

"There was a gun in this crowd," said Chief of Patrol John Chell. "People fighting, gun on the scene, they stopped someone from getting shot."

The teen was shot in the right thigh near the corner of East 95th Street and Clarkson avenue in East Flatbush about 3:15 p.m., Chell said.

The young man had zipped away on a razor scooter but was later found by one of four cops who responded to the fight, which involved about eight young adults, cops said.

The cop saw the teen drop a purple 9 mm gun on the street and ordered him not to pick it up, said police.

The teen picked up the gun and the cop squeezed off a shot, said Chell.

Officers applied a tourniquet to stop bleeding and the young man was rushed to an area hospital, police said.

He is expected to survive.
