Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- New York City saw a slight rise in COVID-19 infections in the past week, with a daily average of 960 confirmed cases. Though slightly larger, the numbers are nowhere close to the number of infections last month due to the omicron variant. Two Brooklyn zip codes were among the top 5 with the highest percentages. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Hundreds of demonstrators marched from Brooklyn Borough Hall to Manhattan's Foley Square last Friday as part of a protest condemning government inaction against climate change. More than 700 marched along with many members of the youth-led climate justice organization Fridays for Future. Protestors were demanding a permanent end to the construction of the North Brooklyn Pipeline. (YR Media)
- Permits have been filed for a seven-story mixed-use building at 119 East 22nd St. in Flatbush. The lot is located near the Beverly Road subway station, servicing the 2 and 5 trains. The 74-foot-tall development will yield 351 residences across 248,012 square feet. (New York YIMBY)
