Off-Duty NYPD Officer Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash On BQE

The crash occurred near the Atlantic Avenue exit​.

BROOKLYN, NY — An off-duty NYPD officer was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn on Wednesday, police said.

The 30-year-old police officer was riding a Yamaha R1 motorcycle westbound on the BQE near the Atlantic Avenue exit around 8:30 a.m. when he collided with a box truck.

The motorcycle crashed into a wall and burst into flames. The box crash involved in the crash did not stay at the scene.

The off-duty officer was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The NYC PBA posted on X (formerly Twitter) confirming the officer's death:

"Devastated by the loss of our brother following an off-duty motorcycle crash in Brooklyn this morning. Please join us in praying for his family, friends and co-workers as they deal with this unimaginable loss," the tweet said.

Police are searching for the box truck driver. No arrests have been made.

The officer has not been identified yet.
