Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- Mayor Eric Adams announced a $4 million traffic safety initiative in East New York, in a bid to make streets safer for pedestrians. In partnership with the Department of Transportation, the "Speeding Ruins Lives, Slow Down," campaign is aimed at motorists, imploring them to slow down and drive carefully. The campaign will consist of radio and television advertisements and billboards. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Just a day after a leaked draft opinion indicated that the U.S. Supreme Court will strike down Roe v. Wade, abortion-rights rallies had been planned across the city. As of writing this article, events had been planned at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, as well as Foley Square and Washington Square Park. The potential overturning of the landmark 1973 decision has sent a shockwave throughout the country. (Patch)
- The New York City Council voted 48-1 to approve a pair of buildings on Atlantic Avenue. Councilmember Crystal Hudson negotiated with the developers in order to secure more affordable apartments than are required under the Mandatory Inclusionary Housing program. (Brooklyn Paper)
