Fort Greene Among The 40 Coolest Neighborhoods In The World: Ranking

Fort Greene was the only New York City Neighborhood to make Timeout's ranking of the 40 coolest neighborhoods in the world.

FORT GREENE, NY — Apparently, Fort Greene is the coolest neighborhood in New York City.

In fact, Fort Greene is the 15th coolest neighborhood in the world — and the only New York City digs to land on a Timeout ranking of the 40 coolest neighborhoods in the world.

Timeout included Fort Greene on account of its great brunch and wine spots, cultural institutions, parks and unique history.

"It’s one of the most exciting and community-oriented neighborhoods," Timeout writers said.

And it wasn't just Timeout that thought so. The outlet says it asked 12,000 global readers, and only six U.S. regions made the list: Los Angeles' Arts District, Mid-City in New Orleans, Hyde Park in Chicago, Coral Gables in Miami and San Francisco's Richmond District.

Fort Greene has seen some openings of late, including Sailor, an eatery by April Bloomfield with a nautical theme and fish-focused menu. For Timeout, the place to be is Café Paulette near the park.

Fort Greene's brownstone-lined streets are an increasingly hot commodity on the real estate market. A study in July found that sales across "brownstone Brooklyn" — Cobble Hill, Bed-Stuy and Fort Greene — increased in 2023.

In a similar timeframe, buyers' interest in Brooklyn townhouses also skyrocketed, outpacing Manhattan buyers.

That being said, a RentHop study from June found Fort Greene was only the 14th most popular area in Brooklyn, based on renters' search history.
