- A main street at New York City's only army base which was once named for Robert E. Lee has been renamed to honor a Black officer who died in combat in Vietnam. The street will bear the name John Warren Avenue for the Brooklyn native who was 22 years old when he threw himself on a grenade to save three men in his platoon. The road had previously been called General Lee Avenue, for the Confederate general who served at the base before the Civil War. (The New York Times)
