BROOKLYN, NY — An NYPD officer was intoxicated when he crashed into two cars in Brooklyn, according to officials.

Shawqi Ahmed, a 17-year veteran of the NYPD, was arrested on Sunday and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to police and the filed criminal complaint.

Ahmed crashed into two other cars consecutively on Sunday about 5 a.m. on 71st Street near 13th Avenue, according to prosecutors.

When he came out of the car Ahmed looked intoxicated with bloodshot eyes, an unsteady walk and alcohol on his breath, according to the criminal complaint.

But the 43-year-old off-duty officer still refused to take a breath test, police said. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Sunday, and was expected back in court in January, court records show.

Ahmed was hired in 2006 and most recently assigned to Manhattan's Transit District 2, city records show.
