Knife-Wielding Man Attacks NYPD Cop In Brooklyn, Shot Dead: Officials
The man who attacked an NYPD officer with a butcher knife was shot and killed by police in Brooklyn on Sunday, the department said.

BROOKLYN, NY — A man armed with a butcher knife slashed an NYPD officer inside a Brooklyn station house Sunday and was fatally shot by police moments later, according to the NYPD.
Police said the incident unfolded outside the 73rd Precinct station house on East New York Avenue in Brownsville, where a man first approached the front entrance around 5:24 a.m. and attempted to open a locked door in the vestibule.
A few minutes later, he entered through a rear door restricted to NYPD personnel, where an officer stopped him and instructed him to go to the front if he needed help, police said.

That’s when the man pulled out a butcher knife and slashed the officer across the face, Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera said. She managed to fight him off, and as he fled the station house, another officer attempted to stop him with a stun gun—but it failed to subdue him, according to police.

Officers chased the man on foot to Saratoga Avenue between Eastern Parkway and Park Place, where he repeatedly ignored commands to drop the knife and lunged at them, Rivera said. When he charged at another officer with the weapon, police opened fire, striking him multiple times.

The shooting was captured on body-worn cameras and nearby surveillance footage, and officials said a knife approximately 14 inches long was recovered at the scene.
The attacker, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"Every day, our officers put on these uniforms, they encounter dangerous situations out in the street," Rivera said. "But it's another kind of danger when someone comes directly into a precinct armed with a knife and attacks our officers. This is the risk that every member of the NYPD faces every single day to keep this city safe."
The officer, whose name has not been released, was treated at a local hospital. “She is going to recover and is in good spirits,” Mayor Eric Adams said on social media after visiting her Sunday morning.
"This incident is a reminder of the danger our brave men and women in uniform face every day protecting our city. Thank you for all you do," Adams added.
