Man Fatally Shot By Police At NYCHA Apartment Building

BROOKLYN, NY — A knife-wielding man was shot and killed by police officers in a Brooklyn apartment Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at 108 Christopher Ave. in Brownsville, just before 3 p.m., police said.

Officers were responding to a 911 call from a woman claiming her ex-boyfriend was threatening her and her children, according to NYPD Chief of Housing Charles McEvoy.

When they got to the scene, police encountered the 25-year-old suspect with a knife inside the apartment, along with another man.

Officers initially tried to deploy their tasers on the man, but it proved to be ineffective, McEvoy said.

The suspect advanced toward police and was shot by an officer twice in the chest.

"Immediately after the shooting, officers began life-saving measures and requested EMS to the scene. Thankfully, the woman and children were not physically injured," the chief added.

The suspect was transported to Brookdale Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The officers involved in the incident were unharmed. The incident was captured on police body camera.

A knife was recovered after the shooting.
