Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- A crew member working on "Law & Order: Organized Crime" was shot and killed near the show's set on Tuesday morning. Johnny Pizarro, 31, was found with gunshot wounds to his head and neck at approximately 5:15 a.m. in Greenpoint. Pizarro had been contracted by the NBC show to do parking enforcement. (Patch)
- A woman was fatally struck on the Belt Parkway after she jumped from a moving vehicle. At around 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the 35-year-old woman exited her Mercedes SUV and was struck by an oncoming vehicle while she stood in the middle of the lane. The driver of the other vehicle did not remain at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing. (Brooklyn Paper)
- A Yonkers man was arrested on Monday after he confessed to stabbing and killing a homeless man in Prospect Park. Anthony Dejesus, 28, was charged with murder and possession of a criminal weapon after attacking 37-year-old Miguel Andrews. Dejesus is reported to have turned himself in at around 2:30 a.m., only minutes after the killing. (Patch)
- Former Mayor Bill de Blasio announced his withdrawal from the 10th District Congressional race and stated his intentions to leave electoral politics in general. "I've listened really carefully," said the former mayor, "and it's clear to me that when it comes to this congressional district people are looking for another option and I respect that." A district wide survey run by the Working Families Party showed him near last place among voters. (Patch)
