Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- The Prospect Park Alliance will host an event next week to figure out how to improve the Lefferts Historic House. The event will include an exhibit curated by local artist James Shabazz and featuring work from other Brooklyn based artists. The event is part of the ReImagine Lefferts initiative, which seeks to "re-envision the museum's mission to tell stories of enslaved Africans and Indigenous people." (Patch)
- The NYPD are searching for a suspect who attacked a man on a Coney Island-bound N train on Wednesday morning. Video footage shows the suspect, who approached the victim and spat in his face before attacking him with a baton. The reason for the assault is not known, while the victim was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. (AMNY)
- A cyclist was struck and critically injured in Crown Heights. The incident occurred on Eastern Parkway at around 3 a.m. on Thursday, wherein the car struck the rider and then ran into a stop sign. The 22-year-old driver received treatment while the cyclist was taken to Brookdale University Hospital. (WABC-TV)
- Brooklyn's first tango festival is coming on Aug. 5, spanning multiple Downtown Brooklyn venues. The event was conceived and is run by an all-woman team seeking to create an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere. The inaugural La Nuestra Tango Festival will run from Aug 5-7. (eastnewyork.com)
- Tickets are now sale for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Lightscape display. The interactive exhibit features a mile-long walk through vibrant installations. Lightscape has consistently drawn crowds since its inception in London eight years ago. (AMNY)
