Man Arrested 13 Years After Fatally Hitting A Pedestrian With Car

After 13 years of searching, police arrested a man who they claim intentionally hit someone with his car during a fight.

EAST FLATBUSH, NY — A man accused of intentionally hitting someone with his car was extradited and arrested in Brooklyn Tuesday — 13 years after the fatal attack, police said.

Anthony Cherestal, 46, of Santo Domingo, stands accused of ramming his car into Ernice Auguste, 52, during a dispute in East Flatbush in September 2010, police say.

Police say Cherestal and Auguste were in a verbal fight on Foster Avenue near East 52nd Street when Cherestal got in his car and drove it onto the sidewalk.

Auguste was left with a head injury and rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Now years later, Cherestal is facing murder charges. He's expected back in court in January, court records show.
