Man Killed After Being Assaulted In Back Of Cab In Brooklyn: NYPD

BROOKLYN, NY — A 53-year-old man died on Tuesday after he was found beaten in the back of a livery cab in Brooklyn, police said.

Michael Shelonchik was found unresponsive in the back of the vehicle around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of West 5th Street and Neptune Avenue in Coney Island, police said.

Police believe Shelonchik was in the cab when two men opened a door and began assaulting him.

Shelonchik was transported to Maimonides Medical Center, where he later died.

According to multiple media reports, the victim may have suffered a medical episode after the incident.

No arrests have been made as of Wednesday evening. A description of the two suspects were not readily available.

The city's medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
