Man Killed During Weekend Block Party In Brooklyn, Police Say

BROOKLYN, NY — A night of celebration in Brooklyn turned deadly when gunfire erupted at a block party, killing one man, according to police.

Around 9 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call about a shooting near 57th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park. There, they found a 45-year-old man lying wounded with a gunshot to the back, surrounded by the scattered remains of the block party.

Police have identified the victim as Roberto Cuevas, who lived just a few blocks away.

Cuevas was taken to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn in critical condition, but he later succumbed to his injuries, according to police.

Law enforcement sources said Cuevas had gotten into an argument with another man at the party before the dispute escalated into a deadly shooting. On Monday, police announced the arrest of 39-year-old Tony Caba, who has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
