Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:
- Police are looking for a suspect wanted for attacking a man dressed in traditional Jewish clothing in Brooklyn on May 10. The suspect approached the 18-year-old man on Avenue M in Midwood before making a vague statement about Palestine, and then punched him in the eye. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction while the victim was treated at a local hospital. (CBS New York)
- An East New York man who started a deadly 2018 fire in Queens was found guilty on Friday, facing up to 15 years in prison. Kahj Woods, 20, was 17 years old when he set fire to his great-grandmother's apartment building, resulting in the death of an elderly man, and a disabled man, both of whom his great-grandmother was caring for. Woods had been living with his great-grandmother at the time and was caught on surveillance footage leaving the three-story building only 10 minutes before first floor tenants began to smell smoke. - The Prospect Park Alliance has decided to bring back its Re:New Prospect Park program for a second year. The initiative is dedicated to improving and maintaining the park and bringing in more volunteers to help with the effort. In addition to maintenance, projects will include installing new picnic tables, working on pedestrian pathways, and patching up stonework throughout the park. (Brooklyn Paper)
- Sunset Park subway shooter Frank James has pleaded guilty not guilty to terrorism and weapons charges in a Brooklyn federal court on Friday. Standing before U.S. District Judge William Kuntz, James entered his plea. James' lawyer did not seek to have her client released on bail and declined to comment after the plea. (NBC New York)
- A Brooklyn man was found stabbed to death early on Friday morning in Manhattan. Sameer Abdalla, 28, of Battery Avenue in Brooklyn was found at the intersection of West 4th Street and 6th Avenue in Greenwich Village with stab wounds to his torso.
