Here are the top three stories today in Brooklyn:
- Brooklyn has been ranked among the top NFL hometowns for running backs. According to a study from BeenVerified on the Top States, Hometowns, and High Schools Producing the Most NFL Players, Brooklyn comes in at number 13 with 22 running backs. The city also made the list of the top high schools in each state with alumni who joined the NFL, thanks to Erasmus Hall High School with 13 players. (BeenVerified)
- A six-story apartment building in Brooklyn is the first mass-timber condo building in the city. Timber House at 670 Union Street appears to be a normal brick building on a tree-lined block from the outside, but its exposed timber beams, columns, and floorboards make it clear this 14-apartment condominium is no typical New York City building. Eric Liftin, principal of Mesh Architectures and the condo's architect and co-developer, says of the structure, "It’s built out of a structure of wood, which is very unusual for a six-story-building like this, which would normally be built out of concrete and steel.” (Reuters)
- The Brooklyn Public Library has added vinyl records to its catalog. Cardholders can now access the library's collection, which includes 400 records, along with new listening stations with turntables at the main branch at Grand Army Plaza. In addition, the library will host a six-week DJ and production workshop for teens this September in collaboration with Building Beats. (Electronic Groove)
