No Jail For Brooklyn Man Who Threatened To Murder Senator: Report
Michael Brogan reportedly walked away without jail time after a Brooklyn federal judge said, "There are many people saying terrible things."
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — A Brooklyn man who told a U.S. Senator via voicemail, "I'm gonna f---ing light you up with f---ing bullets" after she criticized President Donald Trump walked away without any jail time from a sentencing hearing Friday, according to reports.
Michael Brogan, 52, faces three years of supervised release and six months home confinement after a Brooklyn federal judge ruled his death threats were par for current day political discourse, the New York Post reports.
“There are many people saying terrible things about other people based on their beliefs,” Judge Nicholas Garaufis reportedly said. “And from this court’s vantage point, it’s happening on many levels, from the president on down.”

Garaufis also noted Brogan — who pleaded guilty to threatening to assault and murder — cares for a mother with dementia and an intellectually disabled brother, the Post reports.
Brogan left the disturbing message with the unidentified U.S. senator on Dec. 4, 2018, when he said, "You watch your a-- cause I ... I'm going to put a bullet in ya."

Brogan said he made the call after watching an online video of the senator criticizing Trump and stating her views on reproductive rights, according to the complaint.
