UPDATE, Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Despite O'Donnell's best efforts, professional MMA fighting is now basically legal in the state of New York.

Original story below.

ALBANY, NY — Daniel O'Donnell, a New York State assemblyman representing Manhattan's 69th district (and Rosie O'Donnell's older brother), called MMA fighting "gay porn with a different ending" at a Tuesday meeting in Assembly chambers, according to a slew of reporters who overheard the remark.

Wall Street Journal reporter Erica Orden quoted O'Donnell as saying: "You have two nearly naked men rolling around trying to dominate each other. That's gay porn with a different ending."

O'Donnell and his fellow assemblymembers were discussing a bill Tuesday that would legalize MMA fighting in New York.

The Manhattan rep, who opposes the bill — and who is openly gay — added that he would have to "take a cold shower" after the meeting, according to USA Today.

Patch has reached out to O'Donnell's spokesperson to confirm and/or clarify his alleged comments.

MMA fighter Chris Weidman, who live-tweeted Tuesday's meeting, was not impressed.

Weidman joined Brooklyn politicians and business leaders at Barclays Center last month to call for the legalization of MMA fighting in New York — the only state where it is still illegal.
