Here are the top stories today in Brooklyn:

  1. Brooklyn Council Member Chi Ossé announced plans for the "State Of The District" event at the Brooklyn Children's Museum on June 5. Ossé, who represents Brooklyn's 36th District, will participate in a swearing in ceremony as he celebrate become the youngest member of the legislature. The event will feature a line-up of local artists and entertainers in a celebration of Bed-Stuy and northern Crown Heights. (Patch)
  2. An 18-year-old Brooklyn man was arrested and charged with manslaughter on Friday, after his cousin was found stabbed to death. Police believe that Jahmal Baird killed his cousin, Jahmer Wilson-Freeman, over an argument about an unsettled debt. Wilson-Freeman was rushed to a local hospital with stab wounds to chest, where he was later pronounced dead. (Paywall:New York Daily News)
  3. Construction has begun on a new, dual-building affordable housing complex in Brownsville. The development rests between Thatford and Rockaway Avenues on Newport Street, and will be named Bridge Rockaway. The total cost of construction is estimated at around $118 million. (New York YIMBY)
  4. A new exhibit at Brooklyn's history center will celebrate Black voices from Brooklyn. The exhibit, called "Enacting Central Brooklyn," is set to launch next week and will feature stories from past and present Brooklynites. The narratives have been drawn heavily from the Center for Brooklyn History's oral history collection, and other local organizations. (Patch)
  5. The New York Transit Museum's nostalgia rides are returning after a two-year hiatus. Passengers can hop on board a vintage subway car and travel like they were in the 1930s. The Brooklyn leg is highlighted by a two-hour ride from Manhattan's 96th Street Station, all the way to Coney Island on the Q line. (Brooklyn Paper)
