BROOKLYN, NY — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a dump truck driver in Midwood Monday, marking the second such crash in just one month.

A dump truck was traveling eastbound on Avenue P about 9:15 a.m. Monday when it slammed into Erika Wajsman, 77, who was crossing Avenue P near East 19th Street, according to the NYPD.

The woman was left unconscious and unresponsive and was pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The 43-year-old driver remained on the scene, but no arrests had been made Tuesday.

It's the second time a dump truck fatally struck a pedestrian in Brooklyn this month alone. On Nov. 15, a dump truck crashed into a cyclist in Brooklyn Heights, sending the cyclist's passenger to the hospital in critical condition.

In August, a dump truck driver kept moving after fatally striking a woman in her 60s or 70s in Greenpoint, police said.

This particular Midwood intersection has seen one other injurious crash so far this year, according to NYC Crash Mapper.
