Popular Ukrainian Spot Veselka Opening Brooklyn Location
Veselka's beloved pierogis are headed to Lorimer Street in Williamsburg.
WILLIAMSBURG, NY — Well-known East Village pierogi hotspot Veselka is moving onto Lorimer Street in Williamsburg, new plans submitted with the city show.
Veselka owners are working on a 4,885-square-foot space on Lorimer Street between Meeker Avenue and Jackson Street, plans filed with the Buildings department show.
Building plans, first reported by Brownstoner, show plans to fully renovate the property the Ukrainian heavy-hitters bought in May — just a couple of months after the eatery announced it was headed to Brooklyn.

Construction is not likely to include demolition, plans show. The property is just one floor and a cellar, which will include Veselka's restaurant and commissary — an indication the Williamsburg spot will include takeaway prepped food.
Formworks is listed as the architect for Veselka's Brooklyn outpost, the same group responsible for the Market Line and Peoples Wine on the Lower East Side.

Founded in 1954 as a newsstand, Veselka has become one of Manhattan's most well-known names in the restaurant world.
"Veselka has grown from a small newsstand into a 24 hour gathering place, serving up Ukrainian soul food," owners wrote on the restaurant's website. "Veselka is, put simply, an institution of New York City."
And its growth does not stop at Brooklyn.
The eatery opened another outpost in Grand Central Terminal last week, offering favorites like borscht, pierogis and chicken schnitzel sandwiches from a counter.
"We’re so grateful for all of our customers, old and new, as we journey from the East Village into Midtown. Come visit us," the eatery said on its Instagram.
