- There has been a post-COVID-19 evictions surge throughout NYC caused by the resumption of evictions, housing shortage, and a large increase in rent. Many in Brooklyn, including Fabian Bravo of Sunset Park, are facing eviction cases. According to Right to Council NYC, in August there are more than 250,000 active eviction cases in the state, and "431 households were thrown out of their home in the city." (New York Daily News)
- On Aug. 31, Farrukh Afzal, a 41-year-old Muslim cab driver from Staten Island, was convicted for a 2018 unprovoked attack against three Chassidic Jewish men in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. Afzal was convicted of second-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault, and third-degree menacing, but he was acquitted of hate-crime charges. (JNS)

- The NYPD is searching for a suspect who shot a 36-year-old man in the vicinity of Harman Street and Central Avenue on Jul 19. The NYPD released a picture and video of the suspect, who is described as a 25-year-old man with a dark complexion, a slender build, and standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall. (AMNY)
