- Parts of southern Brooklyn are facing "severe" drought conditions and the rest of Brooklyn is experiencing "moderate" drought conditions, according to the New York branch of the National Weather Service. Homeowners are encouraged to voluntarily reduce outdoor water use by New York state's Department of Environmental Conservation. (Spectrum News NY1)
- The Biggie Smalls mural in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn was vandalized on Thursday night, Aug. 25. The words "East Coast" were spray painted and dark-colored paint was thrown on the mural. The NYPD is investigating and trying to track down whoever is responsible. Many local residents are frustrated that someone would vandalize the mural. Kim Damus said, "It's disrespect." - There are three performances today, Aug. 27, and tomorrow, Aug. 28, of the play "Mother Lear" at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG), located at 990 Washington Avenue in Brooklyn! Don't miss the limited run of the acclaimed play about "navigating dementia, loss and family dynamics through Shakespeare." (SI Live)

The owners applied for a liquor license at 510 Driggs Avenue, between North 8th and 9th streets, in Williamsburg. The Williamsburg cafe is set to open in early 2023. - Ruth Benn of Brooklyn and ten other activists were arrested on Aug. 2 and charged with disorderly conduct for blocking the door of the U.S. Mission to the United Nation. On Aug. 22, the protesters appeared in New York City Municipal Count and received "adjournment in contemplation of dismissal," or ACDs, from the court. View the link for details.
