- A sleeping man was killed on the beach in Coney Island when a Parks Department truck ran over him. The man was unseen by the truck driver while he slept, and the Parks Department employee was cleaning the beach. The driver remained on the scene while the investigation is ongoing. (CBS New York)
- The 30th annual New York Restaurant Week began yesterday at Brooklyn's famous Gage & Tollner chop house. Running between July 18 and Aug. 21, diners can enjoy meals from participating restaurants for rates of $30, $45 or $60. Around 600 restaurants are participating citywide. (Brooklyn Paper)
- A Brooklyn teenager was arrested in Bayonne, N.J., with two loaded firearms. The 17 year old was arrested on Friday around 4:14 p.m. after a brief verbal altercation with local police. The teen was arrested and charged with two counts of prohibited weapons and devices, and resisting arrest, among other charges. (NJ.com)
- A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a 2019 shooting that killed a friend of his sister's boyfriend. Taliby Kaba, 24, was sentenced after pleading guilty to the crime earlier this year. The fatal incident led to the death of 23-year-old Kenny Joseph. (Patch)
- The Alliance for Coney Island hosted its inaugural classic car show earlier this month. On July 9, The Antique Automobile Association of Brooklyn displayed over 70 automobiles on West 12th Street and Surf Avenue. A spokesperson for the Alliance estimated that over 2,000 New Yorkers participated. (Brooklyn Paper)
