BROOKLYN, NY — A straphanger awoke to a stranger rummaging through his pockets — and got a swift punch to the face on a Brooklyn subway, police said.

A 38-year-old man was asleep on a southbound D train near the 36th Street station Friday about 2:15 a.m. when a stranger started digging through his pockets, police said.

The man woke up, and the robber punched him in the face, according to the NYPD.

The suspected robber ran, and the 38-year-old was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police had not made any arrests Tuesday.
