Student Found With Loaded Gun At NYC High School: What We Know

BROOKLYN, NY — A 17-year-old student was found with a loaded gun at a high school in Brooklyn Monday morning.

The student was found with a loaded 9mm pistol at East Brooklyn Community High School around 10 a.m., police said. The teen has been since taken into custody.

According to a spokesperson for New York City public schools, another student alerted school staff that the 17-year-old had a gun.

Police are trying to determine how the student got the gun.

East Brooklyn High School does not have metal detectors installed. There were no threats reported to the school on Monday, police said.

Similarly, last month, a student at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Queens was arrested with a gun after making social media threats to "shoot the school up."

An investigation remains ongoing.
