BROOKLYN, NY — A student was stabbed inside a Brooklyn high school Tuesday morning, police and an elected official said.
The 15-year-old was stabbed in the abdomen Tuesday about 9:20 a.m. inside Edward R. Murrow High School on Avenue L between Saul Bruckner Way and East 15th Street, NYPD officials said.
The school was initially placed on lockdown as the teenager was rushed to an area hospital in stable condition, police and a representative of the city's Public Schools said.

Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday afternoon said the city is considering which schools need scanners, and doubled down his support for School Safety Agents on city campuses.
"I'm a believer in scanning to keep our schools safe," Adams said.
"We're trying to find the right balance but at the same time keeping our children safe."
City Council Member Inna Vernikov on Tuesday said the suspected stabber was a student on the run, but police could not confirm the identity of the attacker.
"Where was school safety? We will need answers from Murrow admin. Our students and teachers are not safe in schools," Vernikov said on social media.
