Here are the top stories in Brooklyn today:

  1. New York City was declared under an "active-shooter situation" after a gunman opened fire in the 36th Street station in Sunset Park on Tuesday morning. The suspect, who wore a gas mask and a construction vest, fired shots that hit at least 10 individuals, five of whom were listed in critical condition. At least 16 injuries have been reported in connection to the crime, leaving behind a chaotic scene. The shooter is described as about 5 feet 5 inches tall with a heavy build. (Patch)
  2. Rash Bar, a Bushwick bar that was becoming a popular venue for the LGBTQ+ community in Brooklyn, is now closed after being set on fire. The NYPD identified that somebody had used a canister of gasoline in an apparent arson attack. A suspect was seen entering the bar dressed in black before dousing the ground with gasoline, setting it on fire, and then fleeing. (NBC New York)
  3. A disturbing trend in gun violence has left residents of East Flatbush uneasy. The death of 12-year-old Kade Lewin marked the seventh murder in the 67th precinct, compared to only two at this time last year. Deputy Inspector Gaby Celiba, the 67th Precinct commander, said, "There’s no doubt that we took a step back," as he continues to fight the threat of gun violence in his neighborhood.
