- NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating two possible hate crimes in Williamsburg. In both crimes, the men were sprayed with a fire extinguisher. On Aug. 21, a 66-year-old man was sprayed in the face with a fire extinguisher and then punched in the nose while walking near the intersection of Roebling Street and South 3rd Street. A 72-year-old was also sprayed with a fire extinguisher on Aug. 21 near Taylor Street and Lee Avenue. The 66-year-old thinks he was targeted because he is Jewish. Anti-Semitic assaults have increased 114 percent in the last year, according to NYPD statistics. (WABC-TV)
- Yesterday, Aug. 22, Wayne Murray of Brooklyn won $10 million from New York Lottery's $10,000,000 Black Titanium game. Murray purchased the winning ticket at H & A Gas & Convenience located at 4102 Ave. H in Brooklyn. After winning, Murray said, "It feels very humbling and liberating." (Daily Voice)
- Yesterday, Aug. 22, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that the city received a $7.25 million federal grant to expand the greenway network across the five boroughs. The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant money will be focused on "historically underserved, lower-income communities that lack access to affordable transportation and job opportunities." (NYC Gov)
- From Sunday night into Monday morning, Aug. 21 to Aug. 22, at least five people were shot — one fatally — and at least two others were stabbed. On the morning of Aug. 22, a 42-year-old woman was found shot to death in the lobby of an apartment building in the 100 block of Rockaway Parkway in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. On Washington Avenue, Albany Avenue, and Nostrand Avenue there were three separate and unrelated shootings on the night of Aug. 21. (NBC New York)
