WATCH: NYPD Makes Daring Helicopter Rescue Off Brooklyn Coast

Watch an NYPD medic be lowered from a helicopter, then lift a patient to safety.

BROOKLYN, NY — The NYPD performed a daring sea rescue over the weekend that involved a medic being lowered to a helicopter before taking a patient to safety, and it was all caught on video.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the NYPD got a call from the U.S. Coast Guard asking for a medical evacuation for a 22-year-old crew member aboard a cargo ship about 23 miles Southeast of Floyd Bennet Field, the NYPD said.

Officers with the NYPD's Aviation Unit choppered out to the scene, and a medic was lowered to the deck of the ship. The medic touched down on the ship, treated the victim on scene, then helped lift him back up to the helicopter.
