- According to the New York City Police Department, a 12-year-old boy was attacked by two would-be robbers trying to break into his Brooklyn home on Friday. The boy opened the door to the apartment on 61st Street and Sixth Avenue in Sunset Park on Aug. 12 to find two men dressed as construction workers, who then hit the boy in the neck with an "unknown object" and tried to tape his mouth shut. The boy screamed for help and the two men ran away without stealing anything. The men were driving a gray Nissan and were about 25 to 35 years old. They were last seen wearing neon shirts, white construction helmets, dark pants, black gloves, white face masks, and eye glasses. NYPD is still looking for the suspects as of yesterday, Aug. 15. - Yesterday morning, Aug. 15, a man waving a gun aboard a Brooklyn subway train was arrested. According to NYPD, the 33-year-old was waving a revolver around on a Manhattan-bound J train. The train's motorman locked the doors at Broadway Junction in East New York after another passenger called 911 to report the man, and the NYPD arrested him. (1010 WINS)
- The Brooklyn park-goer, Jared Richardson, who was struck by a falling tree branch at Reinald Salgado Playground, has died. On Monday, Aug, 15, police announced that Richardson was rushed to Kings County Hospital, but died about 12 hours later at 8:38 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13. (New York Daily News)
- Shia Hersh Gluck, the father of a family from Williamsburg who were in the Jerusalem terror attack on Aug. 14, has survived. The Brooklyn cancer survivor was in critical condition and on life support after a bullet nicked his jugular as he dove on top of his family to save them during the attack. Gluck was on the bus with his wife, Gitty, and two of his sons. His son Baruch was shot in the arm. A Palestinian man, Amir Sadawi, claimed responsibility for the attack and turned himself in according to the Israeli media. (New York Post)
- New York City plans to end its school-based COVID-19 testing program this fall, according to Chalkbeat. The program administered weekly coronavirus tests to a random sample of students. It was one of the last campus COVID-19 safety measures left. (Brooklyn Daily Eagle)
