🌱 Young Man Shot In Leg In BK + Local Arrested For Prison Contraband

Here are the top four stories in Brooklyn today:
- Yesterday, Aug. 23, a man believed to be 17 or 18 years old was shot in the leg outside a restaurant in Fort Greene, on Myrtle Avenue near Carlton Avenue. The two suspects, both men, approached the victim and fired several rounds. Police are investigating and the victim is in the hospital. (CBS New York)
- On Aug. 21, 42-year-old Fatima Logan of Brooklyn was arrested for introducing contraband into a prison, the NYSDOCCS at Wende Correctional Facility. Logan was transferred to SP Alden for processing. (NYSP News)
- Yesterday, Aug. 23, six firefighters were hospitalized after fighting an early morning fire in Williamsburg. The NYFD sent 138 firefighters to control the fire at a three-story mixed-use building, which has a restaurant and apartments on Union Avenue. The three-alarm fire was under control by 5:39 a.m., but the cause of the fire is still under investigation. (NBC New York)
- New York's Brooklyn Bowl announced the Rosh Hashanah events featuring Yula Be'eri, John Bollinger, Members of Antibalas, and more. Tickets are on sale now for the High Holidays on Sunday, Sep. 25, at 7:00 p.m. and Monday, Sep. 26, at 10:00 a.m. in Williamsburg. (Jam Bands)

- Another possible Jewish hate crime occurred on Monday, Aug. 22, in the 100 block of Lynch Street in Williamsburg. A Jewish man was slapped across the face while walking down the street. Police and the Hate Crime Task Force are investigating the incident, view the link for a description of the assailant. Hate crimes against Jewish people have doubled in the last year. (NBC New York)
- Help your community by giving to the Brooklyn Back 2 School Drive! Destiny Helpers Outreach, a Canarsie nonprofit organization, teamed up with organizations in Fort Greene, Bed-Stuy, Flatbush, and other areas to help at-risk youth. - Construction is set to begin at 50 Commercial Street in Greenpoint! The nine-story mixed-use building is expected to be completed in the summer of 2024, according to the construction board. (New York YIMBY)
