Zoning Board Hearing Set for Commack 7-Eleven
A public hearing on the proposed 7-Eleven at Commack Road and Genesee Drive is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Update: The hearing has been postponed to a later, unspecified date. Patch will update when new information is released.
The public will have an opportunity to voice its opinion to the Huntington Zoning Board of Appeals regarding a proposed 7-Eleven at the corner of Commack Road and Genesee Drive Thursday at 6 p.m. in Town Hall.
7-Eleven Inc. is requesting a special use permit to demolish the auto repair shop that currently occupies the property and construct a 2,250-square-foot convenience store. The owner is also seeking a parking variance to provide 12 parking spaces instead of the required 15.

The proposal has been met with some opposition from neighbors of the location.
"The people who live in the immediate area do not need the aggravation that comes with a 7-11 [sic] so close to their home!" said one resident on Twitter under the handle BBQ4Hire.
"We definitely don't need another 7-eleven. We already have three of those," Patch reader TS commented.
Paul Klimuszko, another Patch commenter, suggested moving the proposed 7-Eleven to the site of the on Jericho Turnpike and Harned Road.
"Put the 7-11 proposed for Commack Rd and Genesee Dr there instead. People in the area do not need a 24 hour operation so close to their homes," he commented.
There are currently three 7-Elevens in Commack. Two of the stores have been robbed at gunpoint a combined three times in the last six months, according to Suffolk County police.
The stores, located at and 6230 Jericho Turnpike, were robbed on and , respectively. The latter was also .
