Motorcyclist Killed In Sunken Meadow State Parkway Crash In Suffolk

The motorcyclist lost control and was thrown from his vehicle, police say.

TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, NY — A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on the Sunken Meadow State Parkway on Tuesday night, New York State Police said.

Jaron Lowndes, 44, of Amityville, was riding a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on the Sunken Meadow State Parkway near Exit SM2 in the Town of Smithtown around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when he came upon a vehicle stopped in the right lane, which was behind a disabled vehicle, police said. Lowndes lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected, police said.

He struck the back of the stopped vehicle, a 2019 Ford EcoSport, and the motorcycle continued and struck the disabled vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Rav4, police said.

Lowndes was pronounced dead at South Shore University Hospital. No one else was injured in the collision, police said.

State police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to call 631-756-3300.
