Teen Fatally Struck on LIE Ramp in Commack
Amityville teen ran out of gas and was struck while walking to his vehicle, police said.

A teenage driver who had run out of gas was killed Saturday night after being struck while crossing the entrance ramp of the Long Island Expressway in Commack, police said.
Aaron Thomas, 19, of Amityville, was struck at around 8 p.m. by a 2006 Chevrolet driven by Kelly Hinlicky, 24, Suffolk County police said.
According to police, Thomas had been driving west on the expressway when his vehicle ran out of gas. He went to buy fuel at a nearby gas station on Commack Road. Thomas was returning with the gas when he was hit, police said.

Thomas was pronounced dead at Huntington Hospital a short time later.
The westbound expressway between exits 52 and 51 was closed for several hours following the crash. The Chevrolet was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing, police said.
