This year, the Commack Fire Department and neighboring units worked hard to keep Commack residents safe. Firefighters were injured, battled difficult conditions and stopped fires from spreading to other dwellings. While you read about five fires from 2011, let's thank our volunteers for working so hard this year.
: A fire damaged the loading dock at the warehouse of Bren-Tronics, Inc. on Brayton Court in February. However the damage appeared to be minimal, and the military battery producer was back to business the following day.
: Sixty firefighters battled a blaze in a one-story ranch on Pittoni Drive in February. The fire, which was believed to have started in the kitchen, gutted most of the home. Nobody was home at the time of the fire but two pets perished in the blaze.

: A Karen Place home was damaged in a fire on the evening of April 10. Commack firefighters were able to contain the flames in about an hour.
: Fires in a business and home kept Commack firefighters busy on July 17. After responding to a small early morning fire at , firefighters rushed to a house fire on Siracusa Boulevard later that day. There were no injuries sustained from either blaze.

: Firefighters went to work on a hot July afternoon to battle a fire that broke out in a home on Rita Crescent. The fire was contained within an hour and two firefighters were treated for heat and smoke-related injuries. The occupants were not home at the time the fire broke out.
