Deer Park, N. Babylon Hoops Teams Stay Hot

The North Babylon High School boys hoops team is 4-1 in League III play and had back-to-back wins over Centereach and Smithtown East this week.

North Babylon's girls team continued with its strong season. Sitting atop League III, the Bulldogs started 2013 with wins over East Islip, Centereach and Smithtown East.

In other action from around the County, Central Islip's, 53-52, win over the Northport boys basketball team Tuesday means there are no more unbeaten teams – boys or girls – left standing in Suffolk.

But there are plenty of quality teams.

Long Island Lutheran (12-1) is the second-ranked squad in the New York State Sportswriters Class AA boys basketball rankings. CI, at No. 18, is Suffolk's best. 

Sachem East is sixth in the latest state Class AA girls basketball rankings while Northport is 23rd.
