Funeral Services Set For Beloved Deer Park Firefighter

DEER PARK, NY — The Deer Park community is mourning the loss of a beloved firefighter who died on May 6, the Deer Park Fire Department has confirmed.

On Monday, officials from Chief Robert Macaluso's office announced Daniel Agababian's passing on Facebook, writing:

"The Chief's office is deeply saddened to announce the passing of a dedicated 30-year member, Firefighter Daniel Agababian. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a true and valued member of our firefighting family. Details to follow.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Firefighter Agababian’s family, friends, and all those who had the honor of knowing him."

Chief Robert Macaluso was not immediately available for comment.

Agababian's obituary reads:

"Daniel M. Agababian, a dedicated son and father who spent over 30 years as a Deer Park volunteer firefighter, has sadly passed away on May 6, 2024. He was born November 10, 1975, in Bay Shore, NY, to parents Lorraine and Michael Agababian, and lived a life filled with valor and service to his community.

"Daniel's commitment to serving his community through the fire department was commend and left a lasting impact on those around him. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Deer Park Fire Department for over 30 years. His passion helping others will always be remembered.

"He is survived by his loving parents Michael and Lorraine Agababian. Daniel also leaves behind his daughter Julia and her mother Cathleen Kneidl, who held a special place in his heart."

Visitation services will take place on Wednesday, May 8, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and Thursday May 9, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. and 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Mangano Family Funeral Home in Deer Park.

A funeral mass will take place Friday, May 10, at 11:15 a.m. at Saints Cyril & Methodius R.C. Church in Deer Park.
