Man Attempted To Rob Woman He Hired To Clean House: DA
"The allegations in this case represent a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior."— DA Tierney.
NORTH BABYLON, NY — A North Babylon man was indicted on Wednesday on charges including attempted robbery after reportedly trying to rob a woman hired to clean his home, said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney.
According to the investigation, on September 2, 2024, Christopher Doran, 66, reportedly lured the woman to his apartment on Weeks Road in North Babylon to clean his home, the DA said. When she arrived, Doran told her he needed her to drive him in her car to the bank to get cash to pay her, he added.
After he instructed her to drive him to several locations between Bay Shore and Babylon, Doran told her to pull into a Chase Bank parking lot where he pulled a knife out and demanded money, the DA said.

When the woman tried to flee the car, Doran grabbed her, but she eventually broke free and shut the driver’s side door, locking Doran inside, the DA said.
While locked inside, Doran reportedly smashed the vehicle’s window with a hammer and fled, the DA said.

On September 3, 2024, Suffolk County police officers located Doran and took him into custody, the DA said.
“The allegations in this case represent a disturbing pattern of predatory behavior,” said Tierney. “This defendant allegedly lured the unsuspecting victim to his home under false pretenses and then attempted to steal from her at knifepoint.”
On Wednesday, Doran was arraigned on the indictment before Supreme Court Justice Richard Ambro; he was charged with first-degree attempted robbery, a Class C felony; third-degree robbery, a Class D felony; and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor, the DA said.
Ambro ordered Doran held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $1,000,000 partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said.
Doran is due back in court on October 17 and faces 16 years to life in prison if convicted on the top count, the DA said.
He is being represented by the Legal Aid Society.
