Woman Hits Man With Mercedes, Tries To Flee Scene: PD

A North Bellmore woman seriously injured a man after she crashed into a utility pole in North Babylon on Tuesday, Suffolk police say.

NORTH BABYLON, NY — A woman was arrested Tuesday evening after she tried to flee the scene of a car crash that seriously injured a man in North Babylon, Suffolk County police said.

Marianne Mkrtchian, 18, of North Bellmore, was driving a 2023 Mercedes Benz C30 when she hit a utility pole and caused it to snap and fall in front of a home on Skidmore Road around 6 p.m., police said.

Edward Marone, 54, of North Babylon, saw the crash while he was sitting in a parked car on the corner of Lloyd Avenue and Skidmore Road so he got out of the car to see if Mkrtchian needed help, police said.

Police said Mkrtchian then put her car in reverse, backed up, struck Marone and pinned him against his vehicle.

Mkrtchian then put her car in drive and attempted to flee the scene, police said. Another man witnessed Mkrtchian's attempt to flee the scene and threw a brick at her Mercedes and shattered the windshield, police said.

Mkrtchian then stopped and exited her car, police said.

Mkrtchian was arrested and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Serious Physical Injury, police said.

She is slated to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date, police said.

Marone was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
