Stony Hill Stables Foundation announces its Fall-Winter Term Equestrian Scholarship Program
Merit-based scholarships for local youth who love horses and are eager to learn equestrian skills.

The Stony Hill Stables Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit established in 2012 to support equestrian training and horsemanship for East End youth, is pleased to announce the opening of its Fall-Winter Term scholarship program.
With generous support from friends, local donors, and community partners, the Foundation will award merit-based scholarships to children and young adults residing in the Hamptons area who demonstrate motivation, passion, and a commitment to pursuing horseback riding, equine care, and competition. The goal is to promote equine sports, riding education, and good sportsmanship, providing local children and young adults with a healthy and enriching life experience.

The mission of the Foundation is to make accessible the beneficial effects of equine sports through riding education, good sportsmanship, and community connection. In a region where the cost of riding lessons and competitive horse show participation can be prohibitive, this program creates an entry point for local youth. Stony Hill Stables Founder Wick Hotchkiss says, “Our idea was to make it accessible with the scholarships.”
Since its founding, the Stony Hill Stables Foundation has provided meaningful opportunities for participants to build confidence, responsibility, and lifelong skills through the bond of rider and horse, while fostering friendships and community connection on the East End.

Eligibility & Application Process
Eligible applicants are local residents (Hamptons/East End) who are enthusiastic about horses and riding, and motivated to learn and grow in the equestrian realm. These are merit-based scholarships with academic achievements, leadership positions, athletic, and community activities taken into account during the selection process. Financial need is a consideration, but not a requisite. For the Fall/Winter Term, the program plans to award five scholarships through contributions from generous sponsors, including The Lyon Family, Goldman Sachs, Maureen Bluedorn & George Mills, and others.
To apply, interested youth (and/or their parents) should visit the Foundation’s website, at https://www.stonyhillstables.com/foundation, to apply. Scholarships will begin immediately for the Fall/Winter term at the stable located at 268 Town Lane, Amagansett.
Call to Action
The Stony Hill Stables Foundation invites community members, donors, and local businesses to join in supporting this initiative. Contributions help grow great riders—whether through direct scholarship donations, sponsorships of training programs, or volunteer engagement at events.
“As the sport of riding becomes less accessible for many on the East End, we are committed to preserving horsemanship and creating pathways for local children,” said Ann Stewart, President of the Foundation Board. “We believe in empowering our young riders not just to ride, but to learn responsibility, empathy, and discipline through the horse-rider relationship.”
