1 Dead, 2 Critically Injured In Southern State Parkway Crash

An 18-year-old woman was killed in the collision, police say.

SOUTH FARMINGDALE, NY — An 18-year-old is dead, and three other people were injured in a collision on the Southern State Parkway Saturday night. Two of the three people who suffered injuries are in critical condition as of Monday afternoon, New York State Police said.

The crash happened on the eastbound Southern State Parkway just west of exit 32 in South Farmingdale.

A 27-year-old Laurelton man was driving a 2018 Subaru eastbound on the Southern State Parkway in the center lane and a 2004 Honda Civic driven by Ciara Hare, 18, of Lindenhurst, was in the right lane, police said.

The Subaru moved from the center lane into the right lane, striking the side of the Honda, causing both cars onto the right shoulder, police said. The Subaru spun sideways and flipped on the driver's side, coming to rest against the brush and trees, police said. The Honda struck an electric box and continued on and struck a traffic camera pole, police said.

Hare was pronounced dead at the scene and the two passengers in her vehicle were both transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

The Subaru driver suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) and Forensic Identification Unit (FIU) are all investigating.
