'A Day of Remembrance' Set for Sept. 11

Farmingdale will remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 in a "Day of Remembrance" next Wednesday at the Farmingdale Library.

The event, sponsored by Community Summit and the South Farmingingdale Fire Department, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, the 12th anniversary of the attacks. 

"Farmingdale Remembers" is the Summits’ annual observance commemorating the events of Sept. 11, 2001, when terrorists hijacked four jet planes, crashing two of them into the World Trade Center. About 3,000 people died in that attack alone. 

The Summit encourages the community to take part in the ceremony that will "honor and remember those who perished, pay tribute to those who served so unselfishly in the recovery operation and to show our continued support for all those who were affected by the events of 9/11/01," Summit officials said. 

Following the services at the 9/11 Memorial at the Farmingdale Library, the public is invited to the South Farmingdale Fire Department at 819 Main Street for the dedication of a special memorial.

This memorial will honor the thousands of innocent men, women, and children murdered during two different terrorist assaults on the World Trade Center, including the first one on Feb. 26, 1993 as well as the Sept. 11 attack.

A short dedication ceremony and a light buffet will take place, firefighters said.
