The International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union # 138, will conduct a recruitment from June 4 through June 15 for three operating engineer (Heavy Equipment) apprentices, the New York State Department of Labor announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Operating Engineers Local # 138, 575 Horseblock Road, Brookhaven, New York, from Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Applications must be received no later than June 15, 2012.
The Committee requires that applicants:

* Must be at least 18 years old.-proof required once accepted to the program.
* Must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)-copy of diploma required once accepted to the program.

* Must be residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties.-proof of residence required once accepted to the program (2 items other than drivers license and car registration)
* Must be legally entitled to work in USA-provide proof of legal eligibility once accepted to the program.
* Must supply own reliable transportation to and from school and job sites.
* Must provide three letters of personal reference and submit a copy of valid photo identification-once accepted to the program.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
