Big Events Coming to Downtown Farmingdale

Street fair, music and restaurant week are all part of efforts to promote downtown.

An ad-hoc panel of downtown Farmingdale activists have announced plans for some memorable events in the center of the community this spring and summer.

The Downtown Master Plan Implementation Committee, which was responsible for the "first ever" Farmingdale Village Saint Patrick’s Day parade on March 17, consists of range of local people including residents, local merchants and village officials.

The group's objectives include looking at redevelopment and housing options, attract new businesses and draw more people to downtown, said Chuck Gosline, one of the organizers of the committee.

Here are some of those plans:

  • The Farmers’ Market opened this weekend and will run on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the fall. This fresh market first opened last year under the guidence of  "A Taste of Long Island" located on Main Street in the downtown.
  • A Spring Main Street Fair is scheduled for Sunday June 2, hosted by the Farmingdale Fire Department.
  • That same Sunday, the Annual Strawberry Festival will take place on the Village Green, hosted by the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society. That will kick off Farmingdale’s own ‘first ever’ Restaurant Week "eat local" starting on Monday June 3 through Sunday June 9. Specials will be available at most downtown eateries. • Car shows are scheduled for June 28, July 26 and Aug. 23. Live music is planned by the Village POPS beginning on Sunday June 30 and then on Wednesday nights beginning in July; July 3, 17, 24, 31 and Aug. 7.

Additional information will be available before the events.
