Duo Arrested After Fight on Long Island

One man resisted arrest and injured an officer early Saturday, police say.

FARMINGDALE, NY – Two men were arrested after a fight broke out early Saturday in Farmingdale.

According to Nassau Police, officers responded to a business on Main Street in Farmingdale at 2:50 a.m. Police originally stated that business was The Nutty Irishman, but that information was incorrect.

An investigation at the scene led to the arrest of 23-year-old Carlos Alvarez-Contreras, police said. Alvarez-Contreras, of Farmingdale, assaulted a 24-year-old man, police said.

While officers were placing Alvarez-Contreras under arrest, 23-year-old William Cardoza began to interfere with the arrest, police said.

According to police, Cardoza ignored all verbal commands and became aggressive.

When officers attempted to arrest Cardoza, he began to resist, causing an officer to be injured, police said. Cardoza, of Massapequa, was eventually placed into custody.

The officer and the man who was assaulted were both transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Cardoza is charged with second degree assault, second degree obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct. Alvarez-Contreras is charged with third degree assault. They will both be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
