Farmingdale Lanes Abruptly Announces Closure
The bowling alley, which has been a Farmingdale institution for decades, is closing at the end of the day Wednesday.

FARMINGDALE, NY — After decades of being a local institution, Farmingdale Lanes abruptly announced that it would be closing at the end of the day on Wednesday.
The bowling alley's parent company, the family owned Maple Family Centers, announced on Monday that Wednesday would be the alley's last day. They cited the economic toll from the coronavirus pandemic — which led to months-long shutdowns for bowling alleys — as the main reason for the closure.
"The last 18 months have been extremely challenging," the owners wrote in a letter posted to Facebook. "We fought hard to get bowling centers opened throughout the state, but having limited occupancy in addition to other government mandates for many months has played its part in us making this difficult decision."

Farmingdale Lanes is owned by Maple Family Centers, which is run by the LaSpina family. The company owns four other bowling centers, which are not closing.
The LaSpinas said they offered all of the full-time workers at Farmingdale Lanes positions at their other bowling alleys, and they all accepted.
